New sources of supply
the importance of CBM.
Are we running out of gas? Our known conventional sources of natural gas in North America are declining. Most of the large reserves of conventional gas have been found and the producing basins on the continent are mostly mature and in a stage of declining production. Every year, new gas finds are required just to offset an estimated 30 per cent natural decline rate in production from existing wells. Meanwhile, demand continues to rise and is expected to remain strong for the foreseeable future.
Where will that gas come from?
A number of new sources are on the horizon: gas from Canada’s north, gas from Alaska and Nova Scotia, liquefied natural gas (LNG) which is transported by ocean-going tankers and CBM. Industry and governments are seeing CBM as playing an important role in reducing the gap between future demands and declining conventional production. |
• Ember’s CBM resources would provide the energy to operate 8 million Canadian homes for one year.
• To date Ember has one commercial Horseshoe Canyon CBM project and one commercial Mannville project.
